New FTC iphone App

I just downloaded (for free) a new application from the iphone App Store. It is an electronic scorecard for HotShot! and includes the countdown timer for autonomous and teleoperated periods.

As I understand it, this is the first Apple sanctioned application for FTC.

Thanks to team 577 and Eric Lubin for developing this and making it available for free.

Try it out!

Oregon FTC

The Oregon FTC Championship was great yesterday. ORTOP does a tremendous job of organizing and running FTC. About 80 volunteers made the event a success.

Oregon has reached a density of teams such that qualifying events are held leading up to their state championship. The level of competition really reflects this. When teams compete in multiple events their solutions to the challenge evolve and become more powerful.

Another reason to get others involved in FIRST and FTC in your area.

I met a team at the Oregon event from Cottage Grove. Their high School awards a Letter to students who participate in the FTC Robotics Team at their school - great idea. Maybe it's time to lobby your school to do the same. The level of commitment and hard work to be a successful FTC team rivals that of just about any "traditional" school sport.

More and more people are catching on that this is good stuff.

Finally - I love the photo of the robot above. Weeks of preparation and hard work can be undone by simple mistakes. Experience is a great teacher, in FTC as it is in life!

See you out there - Ken
